The colors, the texture, the lines, the details, the light. Amazing shot!

Beautiful, one simply cannot even copy these colours in a painting... thanks for sharing!

Location
I am a keen fly angler and the feathers featured in this are actually feathers I use for tying artificial flies to be used for Trout and salmon angling. So this was taken at my desk in my fly tying room under a lamp.Time
I believe it was around midday. As there is not a whole pile of natural light featured in this image I think i would have gotten the same result any time of the day.Lighting
As I said above I did not use natural light to get the result in this image. I used artifical light from an overhead lamp and positioned it so that the lighting was hitting the right side of the water drops as can be seen in the image.Equipment
Believe it or not I was using a cheap screw on macro filter on my 18-55mm kit lens on my nikon d3100 dslr. I had the camera on a tripod and used a remote shutter release to avoid camera shake.Inspiration
Quite simply: the colours. The peacock feather has some of the most extravagant colours of any bird on the planet and I wanted to highlight this. Plus I had not got the opportunity to do much macro photography so I felt this would be a good place to start as water can be quite effective in macro.Editing
Not a whole lot. Some small light correction in light room with the usual contrast and brightness but as a whole this image looked quite good straight from the camera. In my camera bag
I always have my 50mm f/1.8G lens in my bag followed by my tripod and remote shutter release. It depends on what I am shooting if I go out with the intent of shouting landscape I bring my tripod and neutral density filters and often my kit lens as it's the widest angle lens I own. I also have a 50-300mm lens which I like to shoot with also.Feedback
Set the shot up right, lighting is your best friend in a shot like this along with your tripod and remote shutter release. As I've said macro is very effective when shooting water droplets and can show immense detail of the subject it's resting on as you can see the texture of the feathers is magnified inside the water droplet. Use manual focus and frame your subject adequately and most of all enjoy it!
