I took this photo at an Anberlin concert at The Music Farm in Charleston, South Carolina on November 6, 2012.Time
This photo was taken at night around 10pm in a pretty dark building.Lighting
I had no control over the lighting as I only had ambient lighting from the concert to use. I would try as fast as I could to meter and would snap a photo as quickly as I could.Equipment
This was shot using my Nikon D40 SS 1/2000, 50mm, 1.8, ISO 800. Not the best setting but I was quickly trying to adjust my settings as the light changed. (Not to toot my own horn but to me, this was an example of how knowing your equipment and how to use it is more important that having the most expensive gear)Inspiration
My husband and I are big fans of Anberlin, even though they have since gone their separate ways :*( . (Look them up!) This was our second time seeing them but the 1st time I was allowed to take my camera in. I hoped to capture photographs that would not only help us to remember the show but also photographs that others might like even though they had no idea who the band was. We got there super early in order to be right up front. Thankfully they were as good live as their albums were and I was able to get some great photos to help us remember how great it was.Editing
I really didn't do much post-processing on this photo considering the venue provided a great set up to start with that included the haze. I boosted the shadows a tad and changed it to black and white. Other then that, I felt like it didn't need anything else.In my camera bag
I shoot mainly with a Nikon D700 50mm 1.4. My camera bag always has a slew of batteries, CF cards, my SB-700 as well as a few squeaker toys which are great for when I'm shooting animals or little children.Feedback
Shot for you. Shoot what you love. Don't be afraid to push your limits of what you know to try and get a great shot. Always be learning something new and applying it to your photography whether its shooting, post-processing, marketing, or whatever. Be better than your last photograph was but always remember to have fun!
