Location
I took this photo in a small park in our neighborhood.Time
It was mid-morning.Lighting
The sky was partly-cloudy, and a passing cloud gave the perfect light.Equipment
I used my Nikon d5300 with a Sigma 18-250 macro attached, handheld and no flash.Inspiration
I love Spring blossoms! It is always a challenge to capture their fresh beauty and soft colors. A tree of blossoms also offers wonderful bokeh opportunities.Editing
Besides the usual post-processing for clarity and sharpness in Photoshop, I also used some layers of textures to blend into the natural bokeh provided by the other blossoms on the trees. In my camera bag
Nikon d5300 body; Nikon 55-300mm, Sigma 18-250 macro, Nikon 40mm macro lenses; microfiber cloths; and extra memory cards. Depending on where I am going, I may add kit lenses.Feedback
I really love high overcast light for capturing flowers. We don't get much of that where I live, so I often settle for a passing cloud and timing. I always check my background and try to get bokeh that compliments the subject. In this case, having blossoms directly behind and around the flower I chose were a good choice. I like using a longer lens to give me better bokeh and make the subject flower stand out. I also love using textures in layers in post-processing. I was going for a bit of a magical look here, because I think Spring is magical!
