Location
This tulip was growing among many at our Botanic Gardens. I wanted to isolate this particular flower and have a shallow dof.Time
I was at the Gardens all day and took this shot mid-morning on a sunny day.Lighting
The light was typical for the time of day. I did use a polarizer filter.Equipment
I was using my Nikon d5300 camera with a Nikon 55-200mm lens. I don't carry a tripod at the gardens.Inspiration
I love flowers - their shapes, colors and patterns. The gracefulness of tulips has always appealed to me. They are one of my favorite flowers to photograph.Editing
I used Photoshop for the edit. I had another shot of Bradford tree blossoms just beginning to open that had the same shape as tulips. I turned the shot into a pattern and edited it into my tulip image. I also used a texture layer in saturation blending mode to set a different mood that fit the title "Memories."In my camera bag
I carry my Nikon d5300 camera and an assortment of lenses. Most of the time I have my Nikon 55-300mm on the camera but also have my kit lenses, a Sigma 18-250 macro, Nikon 16-85mm. All have polarizer filters and ND filters. I always have extra cards and microfiber cloths.Feedback
Botanical gardens are a great place to take photos of a variety of flowers. In the Spring I spend as much time as possible getting shots of flowering trees and spring flowers like tulips. If you have a botanical garden near you, it's a great source for spring and summer flower shots, as well as butterflies. I have a yearly membership at ours and go as often as I can. The more photos you have to work with, the better. I am so often surprised by what images work together in ways I would not have imagined when I took the shots. My advice is shoot a lot! It's my favorite thing to do!
