This lonely olive tree stands between the villages Galataria and Vretsia in Paphos District, Cyprus.
Vretsia is an abandoned Turkish Cypriot village in Paphos district. Its inhabitants left for the occupied areas after the Turkish invasion in 1974. Galataria is a tiny village nearby with a population of just over 50.
The olive tree is considered a symbol of peace and tranquility, elements so much needed in the turbulent Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East region.
