The Chantara Waterfalls are located in the Trooditissa River (aka Diplos Potamos) in the state forest at an altitude of 1035 m, 1.5 km north of Fini village and 3.5 km from Trooditissa Monastery. The waterfall has a height of 8 m and the rocks in the area consist mainly of gabbro.
The surrounding vegetation consists mainly of pine (Pinus brutia) and the understory consists of the endemic golden oak (Quercus alnifolia), the Greek Strawberry Tree (Arbutus andrachne) and many other shrubs and herbs. In the riverbed, vegetation includes the Oriental Plane (Platanus orientalis) and the Oriental Alder (Alnus orientalis) along with other aquatic plants species.
Legend has it that the waterfall got its name from the Greek word αντάρα (antara) which in the local dialect means “water noise”; literally the word translates to mist.
