Halcyon days is a phrase that refers to calm and peaceful days, particularly during winter. The origin of the phrase is associated with the Greek mythological figure, Alcyone, who was metamorphosed into a kingfisher by Zeus. Τhe period during which Alcyone (as a bird) made her nest near the sea and laid her eggs, her father Aeolus, god of the winds, restrained the storms and calmed the waves so she could do so in safety.

The photo was taken right after sunset two weeks ago, near Cape Pyla (Xylofagou), Cyprus; special thanks to my friend Philippos Pattichis for showing to me this magical place! The sea was surprisingly calm for the season, hence the title. For those interested in the technical details, this is a single RAW shot, taken with Nikon D750 and Nikon 14-24 mm set at its hyperfocal distance; exposure for 141 seconds at f-11 and ISO 100, using a 6-stop ND and a 0.9 soft grad filter by Lee. Very modest post processing, first in LR and then in PS.
