Perfect!!! This really makes you stop and say Wow....we really did descend from apes. Such an expressive and endearing look on his face. Your description says it all. Thanks so much for sharing this :-)

Location
This was taken at the chimpanzee enclosure at Chester ZooTime
It was taken in the early afternoon when the chimps were all outside playing and enjoying themselvesLighting
The lighting was fairly good with some sunshineEquipment
This was shot with my Nikon D5100 with Nikkor 55-300mm telephoto lens, hand held, no flashInspiration
As most people find, the similarity between chimps and humans is striking and very engaging. I found out that this chimp Boris, who seemed to really enjoy watching the crowds of people watching him, had been brought up by humans in USA. I just loved his facial expression!Editing
Just some slight contrast adjustment and croppingIn my camera bag
I nearly always carry my D5100 and the telephoto lens because it's my favourite, and of course I always carry spare batteries and SD cards! I also have a Nikon P900 Coolpix nowadays, which is great for zooming in on wildlife. I have a Nikon J2 with 10-30mm lens for more wide angle shots and also an Olympus TG-1 for rainy days as it's waterproof. Sometimes I carry macro gear and filter kits, depending on what I am planning to shoot.Feedback
It pays to spend some time observing animals,if they are in captivity that can be fairly easy. I like to look for something a little quirky that conveys the character of the animal. I use a wide aperture to isolate the subject and try to include a little background but fill most of the image with the subject. To keep a reasonable shutter speed in case of sudden movement, I bump up the ISO to 640 or 800 unless the light is very bright.
