a slight modification, just because I can. lol
The South Haven Lighthouse after a winter storm. I've always been fascinated with storms and related elements. When I first saw this it reminded me of stairs leading toward the light. The light from a spiritual perspective refers to heaven. Ironically, this only happens under certain conditions, and not every year either. I actually went back a week later after getting this shot and almost all the ice was gone. Thanks for taking the time to view, favor, and comment, I hope you enjoy the view as much as I did.
As an interesting side note, not only has certain photo's in the frozen lighthouse series won awards through other competitions, I was also represented by a global media company who arranged publishing through their global contacts.
One of the last to buy the publishing rights was of all places Disney :)

Looked like really good cgi at first. Awesome capture! Wondering what enhancements were done.

Location
I am a self taught photographer who loves treasure hunting. Having the patience and wisdom is key to being in the right place atthe right time. This particular treasure was taken in South Haven Michigan.Time
It was exceptionally cold that day, well below zero, so I kept a spare battery in my pocket in order to avoid fast power drainage. I actually started out at the southern part of the lake at the Michigan city lighthouse, so by the time I got to South Haven it was around 4 pm.Lighting
The best part of winter is the extended period of good light. That's the part of the morning or early evening where the natural light is less harsh, so it's perfect for minimizing extreme contrasts. In this instance I also took advantage of using a 45 degree natural side lighting to add just a touch of contrast to the ice itself.Equipment
A canon 40D with a 17-40 L lens, and a tripod. I find that when you're out treking in subzero weather it's best to travel as light as you can.Inspiration
I know it's going to happen under just the right conditions. So it's a matter of matching your expectations with the desired outcome, then checking to see what transpires.Editing
With this one many layer masks were required to fit the expectations of the outcome. The outcome was set in relation to the theme Alice, which is named after the movie Alice in wonderland. In my camera bag
I don't carry a bag nor do I even have one anymore. I discovered that it throws me off balance in relation to the areas I find myself exploring. So I travel light and only carry a minimum of what I need.Feedback
First of all you have to decide what you want. What is it that fascinates you the most ? Once you answer those seemingly simple questions the direction your heading will become simplified.
