Location
The image was captured on a beach in the Republic of Panama and is part of a series I've simply entitled "Sand".Time
I have two favorite times of day when walking and taking photographs on the beach, sunrise and late afternoon. This particular photograph was taken in late afternoon.Lighting
Most of my sand shots are taken in the shade, never in direct sunlight. It permits me to better capture the variations in color of the sand and in this case the remaining salt water on the beach.Equipment
This shot was taken hand held with a Canon PowerShot S95. Goes to show how a small camera can capture wonderful photographs.Inspiration
I was working on creating a series of photographs on this particular beach in Panama. I focused on the patterns the sand provided me each day. As the tides roll out the patterns and effects are wonderful. I developed this series over a four year period. In later shots of this series I've used a Canon EOS 7D camera with a Canon 24-105 lens. I use a tripod for sunrise shots and hand held with late afternoon lighting.Editing
All of my photographs are processed with Lightroom. Obviously the colors are not all natural. Depending on what I wish to express I work with each section of the initial photograph to render the desired effect. In my camera bag
My old Canon S95 and my Canon EOS 7D with a Canon 24-105 lens. My tripod is a very light Koolehaoda purchased directly from Japan via eBay.Feedback
In my opinion any camera can do the job, the trick is what you see in your minds eye before the post-processing. As mentioned above shoot in the shade and post-process with your final objective in mind. This shot is my favorite of the entire series. All 30 images were exhibited last December in a galerie here in Montreal.
