Watkins Glen, NY. This is Rainbow Falls

Time

This was take about 11 am.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect. It was cloudy and you are in a gorge. It actually took my breath away it was so pretty.

Equipment

Canon 5D Mark ii, 16-35mm L, Alta Vista Tripod. Variable density ND Filter.

Inspiration

Just take a look at Rainbow Falls in Watkins Glen and the beauty will make just about anyone scramble for a camera. One of the prettier places I have ever been too.

Editing

Color Curves, Topaz Clarity, Adjust, Detail and of course, high pass filter.

In my camera bag

Not much believe it not. Batteries for the camera and flash as well as a cleaning cloth and lens pen as an extra memory card.

Feedback

In this case, keeping the swarms of people from moving around in the frame is key. The time I was there, it was loaded with people. So I would assume getting there early to avoid the crowds is important. With this photo, I had about a three second time frame to snap it off. I never got the opportunity again as people were consistently in and out of frame. I thought asking dozens of people to stand still for 2 seconds was a bit much and would be frowned upon so I bit my tongue. I prefer to shoot in the morning but on this particular day there was little, if any wind and it was getting close to noon. Usually the wind kicks up around 10ish. I wanted to compose the image so that both the falls on the left and the stream in the middle could clearly be seen. It was a 2 second exposure and I set the aperture to work with that.
