Location
This photo was part of a series called Rainbow Multiscapes that I took in my studio in San Jose, CATime
It took over 8 hours to body paint all of the models and then 3 hours of shooting. Started at 10am and ended around 9:30pmLighting
The lighting was a large parabolic umbrella directly above the models and two 1x3 strip boxes behind the models pointed at a 45 deg angle towards the camera.Equipment
Canon 5DmkIII with a 24-70mm f/2.8L. Strobes were Paul C Buff EinsteinsInspiration
I had done a series call multiscapes with multiple models and was looking for a follow on project. I saw a BTS shot from the bodypainter with 5 painted hands and I immediately thought of painting models with colors of the rainbows and recreating my multiscape series.Editing
There was minimal post-processing, mainly just darkening the background to make it pure black. In my camera bag
I always have my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L lens with me. It is my go to lens for most shots because of the incredible bokeh it produces and the compression you can get between the subject and the background. In addition I carry a 17-40mm f/4 and a 24-70mm f/2.8L so I can shoot anything from wide angle to telephoto. Along with my Canon 5DmkIII and a half-dozen Pocket Wizards I prepared for any shooting situation.Feedback
The best results come from being willing to put in the effort that others aren't willing to do. This shoot was the most complicated shoot I had ever attempted, I had to build a set, recruit 7 models and a body painter and then find a date where all 9 of us were available. It took 3 months of effort to pull all the pieces together, but the end result was some of my best work.
