noonLighting
The lighting consisted of two speedlights one under the table lighting the background and one above the table lighting the glass. These strobes were triggered when the skateboard the glass was attached to broke a beam of IR light. The IR beam sensor went into a control box that allowed the flashes to be delayed a given number of milliseconds after the beam was broken.Equipment
Canon 5DmkII with a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L at 40mmInspiration
I had seen similar photos online and when my friend told me he had a delay trigger that was triggered by breaking a beam of light I jumped at the chance to use it.Editing
Post-processing was minimal, I brightened the background and removed a couple of water spots on the glass. In my camera bag
Canon 5DmkII, Canon 17-40mm F/4L, Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L, Canon 24-105mm f/4L, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L, Canon 580 strobe, 4 pocket wizards, intervalometer, CamRanger, lots of memory cards, batteries, and business cards.Feedback
The key for a shot like this is a trigger for high-speed photography that will trigger the flash when an event occurs (such as breaking a beam of light, sound, etc).
