This is from the 2012 Cleveland air show. I have been wanting to go to an air show for a long time. I finally got my chance. I have always wanted to take a chance at a shot like this. I used a nikon D90, 200mm on manual at 1200-5.6. There is no editing here. The key is to keep your eye on the plane at all times. The announcer will tell you the different stunts they will pull. When he said that the pilot was going to do a fast pass. ( that is just below the speed of sound )Be Ready!!! I followed the plane and shot a none stop bust picture after picture. The cloud is water vapor surrounding the air craft. I was excited, especially being my first time at an air show.

Oh Yeah its real!!! You have to be quick.. Its when they just so into or below super sonic speed. Water vapor surrounds the air craft.. you have to be quick and follow the plan the entire way to capture it. It was Intense!!!

Thank you very much for all your support and comments. I was very excited to get this.. I have been wanting to go to air show for a long time, just never had the chance. This was the day!!! Weather was really bad, hey its Cleveland... kinda use to that. The weather cleared up. I missed the first pass, it was so quick I had no clue what was going on. They said that he was going to do another fast past. I was ready.. Got it!!! This was the coolest thing.. I am planning a year in advanced to go back again!!

You did such a perfect job on this! The air shows I've been to have all been cloudy and a challenge for light. Great job on the placement and clarity on the vapor - my favorite thing about the F/A-18s. Great shot! Congraulations!

The skill in capturing this is off the charts, what a phenomenal picture and surely this deserves to win at least one of the contests it has been entered into!? I spotted it as I was about to put an entry into the speed contest and genuinely makes me question why if this is in it. Hats off to you this is something else altogether :-)

I too this shot at the Cleveland Airshow. It was a great time. This was my first airshow so I was really excited to get great shots. I prepared for days I was on the internet checking out blogs and tutorials on how to photograph jets and air stunts. I think I probably took several hundred photos that day.Time
This was one of the earlier events just after noon.Lighting
There really wasn't much with lighting I am glad the sun was behind us. With the sun to our backs that really helped out a lot.Equipment
For this shot I used a Nikon D90 with a 200mm lens nothing else equipment wise.Inspiration
I have always wanted to go to an airshow. This was very exciting for me. I am really glad we took this adventure.Editing
No not really. I used photoshop to sharpen the photo a little better. Lightend the exposure a little and adjusted the contrast and saturation. But really nothing special. In my camera bag
It usually depends I hike a lot so I really want to keep things to a minimum. Normally I have a nikon d90 with a 55-200mm, a nikon p600 or just simple shots and a gopro. Oh and a tripod or monopod a must.Feedback
patience and detication. Research the event before you go out..... And have your equipment ready!!!! You do not want to be fidiling around with a battery or card or any other kind of setting these guys are fast and come out of nowhere.
