Stunning part of the Dorset Coast. This is Portland Bill lighthouse which one of the closest rugged parts of the southern coast line near home.Time
I enjoy visiting this part on the south coast. With it being only an hour or so away from home it is quite easy to determine what the sunsets my look like. As a result this photo was taken early evening with the sun dropping towards the horizon.Lighting
The natural sunlight was a bit strong so I used a couple of filters. A graded ND filter and a graded coral colour to add extra interest to the sky.Equipment
The photo was taken with a Canon EOS R. The lens would have been a RF28-70 F2. Lee filter were attached using ND medium filter and a coral tint. I needed to use a tripodInspiration
I enjoy landscapes and seascapes. So when ever I go out with the camera this is always my default. I try to take action shots of large waves and this is a good aftermath with the water receding. I have added a couple of large waves to my portfolio but this is just as full off action.Editing
I normally throw images into DPP4 and make slight adjustments. In this case the air was so still I managed to get 3 images with out any wind moving the leaves. As a result I created a HDR image. I don't use the camera to produce the file but I manually take 3 images adjusting the aperture rather than shutter speed. Once this image was created I then softened it in the same software. In my camera bag
My camera Canon EOS R seems to have the 28-70mm F2 welded to it at the moment as it is a lovely lens you use. Great flexibility with its zoom for landscapes and have just enough zoom for the more focus objects. I have also got a harness to assist in carrying the camera rather than having all the weight of the camera and lens around my neck (I would recommend one with heavy cameras and lenses). A tripod is always in the car. If I decide I'm doing the hole hog then the Lee filters and sigma 14-24 F2.8 get taken out as well. The only down side with the sigma which is another great lens is I need the adaptor for it.Feedback
I am still learning and think I am getting better. I think there is no right or wrong thing. If you see something take a photo of it, the cost of it is nothing once you have your camera. The more you use your camera the more you understand what it can do (play with the settings and move away from auto).
