Location
This photo was taken on the River Itchen (Southampton). The river walk situated between Woodmill and Mansbridge. Its one of the large open green spaces in Southampton. Depending on time of year it's a beautiful location in a city suburb.Time
I got up early to walk the path hoping to see very few people. I believe this would have been around 7am by the time I got there.Lighting
The time of day meant the sun was low forming long shadows and reducing the amount of light passing through the water keeping it dark. A slight reflection of the vegetation above and below the water can be seen around the swan.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Canon EOS R with a 28-70 F2 lens. No flash or tripod was required.Inspiration
I typically take photos of and around Southampton. Looking at Google maps I decided to revisit this location as it had been a number of years since I last walked this part of the river. Hopping to see something other than swans I still took a number of shots this swan.Editing
I typical run Canon's DPP as I always shoot in RAW. I run the auto present on all shots. Once done work through the batch and adjusting the ones I prefer. In this case I darkened the area around the swan more to try to give a black frame and keeping some of the highlights within the water. In my camera bag
My kit bag is getting quite large over time. But the first thing I grab is the Canon EOS R with the 28-70 F2 lens. This lens has become my go to lens. This is what I use when I'm not shore what type of shots I will be taking. If I'm out for a specific reason I will focus on taking other lenses like my Sigma 14-24 for wide angle night shots. Tacking a tripod which seems to be in the car all the time. I have started to experiment with Lee Filters which is another item to be added to the bulk.Feedback
Best thing I can offer is. If you have your camera and you see something take a shot. If you have time to compose the shot in the moment better. But you might find its good/ bad but until that image has been captured you will never know. Experiment see what happens!
