Behind The Lens

Location

St Aldhelm's Chapel, Worth Matravers which over looks the English Channel. Its about 400m away from the cliffs on the Dorset Coast line.

Time

The photo was taken about 3 am or in my terms silly o'clock in the morning.

Lighting

The photo was taken about 3 am or in my terms silly o'clock in the morning.

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS R set up on a tripod. The lens is a Sigma 14-24mm F2.8.

Inspiration

Looking for a different location to visit I stumbled on the cove which is about 1.5 mile away where on google maps. Wanting to find a area with little light pollution I decided to re-visit and got some reasonable shots with my Canon 80D. But wanted to see the difference the EOS R was l returned to take this picture.

Editing

Post editing was canons DPP where I adjusted the lighting to bring out the milky way.

In my camera bag

Typically I take out my EOS R which I have the Sigma 14-24 F2.8 and more recently I use the Canon RF28-70mm F2 as my go to lens. Also RF 35 F1.8 and the RF 100-500. But if I'm just walking around town I'll just have the 1 lens on the camera (RF28-70 F2).

Feedback

Try and find a place where there is little light pollution. Be prepared you might have to revisit the location. You can read up on what others do but and use there experience as a starting point and experiment. Its not like to good old days where you spent £££ on the film and only had 24 or 36 chances. You are only limited to your battery and memory card now and finding a subject to focus on. I still might return to the same location as my equipment grows and experience.
