A ranch wrangler galloping through the snow during a snowstorm. Conditions were challenging to say the least. Snow blowing sideways, trying to keep my lens free of snow and fingers not willing to work in the 0 degree temperature. But I was sooo happy with the result.:-)

That was putting it mildly. I was freezing. Conditions were horrible but I was very pleased with this photo. One of my favorites.

Your study of horses and their relationships with people are stunning . Have you ever exhibited them as a full show locally or elsewhere. I'm sure it would be something that would be appreciated strongly as your work shows the Art of Range and Pioneering Life in a beautiful and original way. So glad I found your profile , MJ

I apologize profusely for not answering you on this comment, but I am just now seeing it. I don’t know how I missed it but I do want to thank you for your wonderful comment. No, I have never exhibited any of my photos, I take them for my own enjoyment. I do gift many to friends though, that gives me great pleasure. Again, thank you!

This is an extraordinary photograph. As are all of your shots. Must have been bitterly cold!!!

Location
This photo was taken in January in Wyoming in the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains.Time
It was taken at dusk as a snow squall raged around us.Lighting
Mother Nature’s lighting. :-)Equipment
I shot hand held with a Nikon D7000 with my 70-200 F2.8 lens.Inspiration
I was hoping for an action shot where the subject explodes out of the background. The whiteout conditions let that happen. The conditions were horrible, very cold and windy with snow blowing sideways. We could barely see the riders coming at us and you couldn’t have your camera ready to shoot until you saw the rider as the snow would cover your lens.Editing
Very little post processing was performed other than adjusting for contrast, lighting and cropping. In my camera bag
I always carry my Nikon D750 body with my 28-300 lens. Depending on what I am going to shoot determines what other lenses I might take and if I add my tripod to the mix.Feedback
I took this photo on a shoot at the Hideout Lodge and Guest Ranch. Typically they don’t get this kind of snow there but we were lucky to have four days of it. All I can say is keep your fingers crossed and grab the opportunity if it presents itself.
