This is a brilliant shot, you have captured the moment - the expressions on both the child's face and the dog's face are awesome. Love it!

As a curator I like and award a lot of pictures, but sometimes an artist comes along with outstanding talent. I am amazed by your abilities, and Norman Rockwell would be proud!!!

Amazing shot, especially considering the potentially explosive elements of food plus a Golden!

I’m so sorry for loss of your beautiful girl. This is one of those pics that I know will stick with me forever. What an amazing memory you created with your sweet girl and your amazing family. Thank you for the background story!!

Location
This main elements of this composite photo were taken at my kitchen table, One of the hardest parts of this image was getting my well trained dog to actually take food from the table! I think she thought it was some sort of obedience test. The background elements were all shot in Sooke, BC CanadaTime
I shot this late morning when my young model is at his happiest. Also I wanted to utilize the late morning light coming from the windows (camera right) as my eating area only allows enough space for one light. The background was shot on my way to the grocery store in the middle of the afternoon, I'm a multitasking mom ;)Lighting
I knew how I wanted to process this image before I shot it and lit it with a strobe to the left of the subjects, window light to the right and a reflector in front.Equipment
I'm a Nikon user and I also used my Alienbee strobe & reflector. I also couldn't have pulled this off without the assistance of my eldest son who had to convince our dog it was okay to take food off the table, adjusted lights and held the reflector.Inspiration
The dog in the photo is my sweet Kesa who was diagnosed with cancer shortly before the image was taken. There was a lot of heartbreak when I told my children and one of the things we did to cope was write a list of things she would love to do. This session crossed 2 off the list: To eat at the table with her people and to have her "Lady" moment like her favorite movie star ;) We had so much fun at this session, there were lots of giggles and I even got a shot of her giving our little "tramp" a kiss (well she was trying to clean up some sauce but it was still cute). Unfortunately we lost her to complications shortly after, she is truly missed and we are so happy to have this memory with her.Editing
Yes lots! I'm a fan of photoshop and I also had a sick dog to care for, I ended up editing this over a few days/nights beside her sick bed. It's a composite of 6 different images blended together. I also did a fair bit of hand editing with dodge & burn, painting and light adjustments in the background plate. In my camera bag
Besides my Nikon I usually have my 50mm & a reflector. Most of my shoots take place along hikes with my kids so I try to keep it simple (& light weight!)Feedback
Plan everything! I've learnt the more planning I do the happier I am with the final image. I sketched this out and knew exactly what I needed to capture as well as what lighting I wanted to achieve the desired effect. I had a picture of the image in my head before I even picked up the camera. Working with kids & pets can be challenging, you need to work fast and their attention spans don't allow for much playing around with settings, lights or props. I had everything I could possibly set up done before they were brought in and kept a required shot list in front of me while shooting. I had the images I needed in the first 5 minutes, the rest was all fun and giggles.
