Intimate Wildlife Landscape Action Photography. This is an intimate portrait of life for a small flock of Sanderlings taken on my favourite local beach on the Isle of Anglesey , off the North Wales Mainland , UK. These pretty little wading birds, so funny in their clockwork waddle feed at the same time each evening rushing in and out of the surf to get their favourite catch. Getting this image does prove that having a little local knowledge combined with the right weather and tidal conditions can have its own rewards when trying to capture a natural wildlife landscape composition. I had settled myself standing quietly some way from the flock allowing them to gain the confidence in my presence and take the steps towards me along the waterline. The image needed to be taken at a point when the tide was either just coming in or going out to achieve the shiny , metallic reflective surface to the texture of the sand. The shot was finally achieved by slowly bending down to ground level and using a tilted lens perspective producing a near eye level shot making the viewer feel that they are being included as part of the group , giving the composition a tranquil , relaxing and cosy atmosphere despite the action. The contrasting horizontal lines of light and shadow on the wet sand contrast with the undulating leading lines of the last ripples of the tide to enforce the element of nimble , constant action in the flock itself despite their down turned heads as well as producing a nice silver grey tonal palette throughout the entire composition.
