The original photograph was taken on a walk around New York City in the rain a few years ago on vintage colour film stock experimenting with capturing techniques . The image was one of a number taken in the USA in major cities created whilst both the subjects and I , the photographer , were virtually in constant motion in order to produce a soft focus , slightly blurred vintage look to the finished images , reminiscent of photographs seen in archive social history and Photographic Art journals. The original purpose for these photographs in colour was to use as a source material for painted and graphic original art works. Now , my focus is on the Photography , and again , I have chosen to be experimental in creating the final black and white images. In order to exaggerate the vintage feel of the photographs further chose not to use Photoshop or Lightroom apps on the original scanned images. Instead , I took the original images and rephotographed them using Monochrome format on my Canon Powershot which gave more of a opaque , vintage feel to the photographs than I was producing when I just changed the scanned versions in the digital lightroom. I have used similar techniques now with various film originals from my portfolio , either turning these images into monochrome , black and white , and n the case of night Photography choosing to leave the photographs in colour but enhancing the pink and blues of the neons by using coloured lens filters and increasing the exposure for a more vintage colour effect .
