Location
The photo was taken at Tardinghen Beach, Côte d'Opale, northern France.Time
Our round trip of the Côte d'Opale was four days long. I knew that only one of these days the sunset and the low tide would be around the same time. So we went to the beach one hour before sunset.Lighting
When I arrived at the shipwreck the sun was covered by the clouds. I had to wait till the sun came out of the clouds and the sun ray illuminated the beach between the shipwreck and the sea.Equipment
The photo was shot on a Fujifilm X-T3 with a Fujinon XF 16-55 mm F2.8 and a tripod.Inspiration
A lot of ships were destroyed during the Second World War. Taking the shipwreck during a sunset when it is surrounded by water gives a dramatic scene and lets the viewer reflect of the lifes that were lost.Editing
Because of the relatively high dynamic range I took 7 pictures with different exposures (-3/-2/-1/0/+1/+2/+3). These pictures were combined in Aurora 2019 to one HDR picture. Some parts of the shipwreck were dodged. In my camera bag
The equipment I normally have in my bag, depends if I am travelling in Belgium or abroad. When I am in a foreign country, I usually have my Fujifilm X-T3 with the Fujinon XF 16-55mm and the Laowa 9mm (with a big stopper) in my bag. That way I am travelling light and able to take a broad range of pictures.Feedback
If you want to take a picture of the shipwreck at Tardinghen Beach you have to study the tides. There are only a few days that the low tide will be around sunset. Hopefully at that day there are some clouds and it is not raining.
