Behind The Lens

Location

The sunset was taken at Lookout Point, Harpswell, Maine

Time

It was about 5.30 PM, a half hour before sunset when we arrived at Lookout Point.

Lighting

I took several pictures from different standpoints but decided that the sun behind the hill and through the trees would give the image more character.

Equipment

The photo was taken on a Fujifilm X-T3 with a Fujinon XF 16-55mm. I placed my camera on a tripod.

Inspiration

Everybody knows that a sunset always make a nice picture. That day the clouds were excellent and the autumn sun put a warm light on the little boats and the trees. The combination of the warm yellow, orange colors of the sun and the bright blue color of the sky gives a nice touch to this sunset picture?

Editing

In Aurora 2019 I combined 5 exposures (-2/-1/0/+1/+2) and selected the warm landscape look. Local adjustments were made to lighten the woods and the boat on the left side of the picture and also the bottom of both hills.

In my camera bag

The equipment I normally have in my bag, depends if I am travelling in Belgium or abroad. When I am in a foreign country, I usually have my Fujifilm X-T3 with the Fujinon XF 16-55mm and the Laowa 9mm (with a big stopper) in my bag. That way I am travelling light and able to take a broad range of pictures.

Feedback

To avoid clipping in the sun, you will have to take at least 2 exposures, one for the sun (under exposed) and one for the rest of the picture (correct exposed). Personally I like a broad spectrum of warm colors in my sunset pictures. Therefore I take different exposures which I combine in Aurora 2019. To get the sun rays in a star you will have to position your camera at the right spot.
