Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo from an airplane above Honolulu. The iconic Diamond Head is in the foreground with Waikiki, downtown and the Ko?olau mountains in the background.

Time

It was shortly after sunrise at 7:10 AM.

Lighting

It was a perfect early morning light, giving shape to the crater and the mountains, and making the city sparkle.

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS 50D and a Canon lens EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6.

Inspiration

The light and the clear, beautiful view is so awe-inspiring.

Editing

Shot RAW. I adjusted the light/contrast, sharpened.

In my camera bag

I use only Canon equipment EOS70D, EOS80D. 3 zoom lenses. 100-400mm. 28-135 mm. 18-55mm. Manfrotto tripod. Manfrotto Backpack 50. B+H ND Filter 8x, Polarizing Filter.

Feedback

For aerial photography from a commercial flight, when you book your seat assignment it's important to visualize where the sun will be during your flight, and then choose a seat on the optimal side, taking into account the plane's wing location and the heat trail coming from the engine.
