Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir the week when Formula One was held here in Bahrain.

Time

This was taken in the middle of the afternoon, while the racers were having their practice runs before doing the race for pole position.

Lighting

Nothing really, since this is an outdoor venue, the lighting was all-natural. The Sun was my biggest friend during this time!

Equipment

I used my Nikon D7000 combined with a Nikkor 28-105 D (macro) because I find these two perfect for what I usually do. Other things in my bag are a Nikkor 50mm which I usually use for portraits and to have that great bokeh effect. I also have a Nikkor 50-200mm VR since we have designated areas where we can shoot so I need a zoom lens with me for a bit closer shot. Oh, I almost forgot, extra MMC's, a tripod, and a JOBY gorilla pod.

Inspiration

Since we know that Formula One is a big event and usually the drivers and their respective teams are in the spotlight so I just wanted to do something for a change and took a photo of the other teams behind the success of these kinds of events. So during that time, I was lucky enough to spot this group of people who manages the area in the pit lane and they were just done doing some inspection.

Editing

Nothing much just adjusted a little bit of its brightness and contrast then had it turned black and white.

In my camera bag

My two Nikon's, D7000 and D3300. A couple of lenses from 28-105mm, 50mm, 55-200mm, and my Nikkon SB700 flash. Also, I have my tripod and gorilla pod together with some extra MMC's, cam battery charger and some filters.

Feedback

Being in this area of sports, one thing you have to make sure is that you are physically and mentally ready to do it. Because when I first started, I didn't know how physically stressful it could be. Because you have to do these long walks bringing along these massive lenses which are really difficult to do. So what happened after, I found out that it was really exhausting and it is not as easy as to point on the subject and shoot. Another thing to remember that in this kind of photography you must make sure to get to know who are the people you are shooting. If you need to study the sport or even be a fan, do it. Because for example, if you went there and you don't know anything about it, you will miss lots of chances just because of the fact you didn't know the people to shoot. So being prepared with the correct knowledge and information about the sport is one of the biggest things you must always do.
