Location
We were driving into L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site (near St. Anthony, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada) when a mama moose and her 2 calves lumbered across the road right in front of us. The calves quickly hid among the bushes, but mama stopped for some greens along the side of the road. We were able to pull up directly across from her when I snapped this pic.Time
It was late afternoon and we were rushing to get to the Historic Site before it closed.Lighting
As is typical in Newfoundland, the skies were grey and cloudy. I think this helped as I didn't have to contend with the sun casting shadows or being in the background.Equipment
When we are driving I find my smaller, FUJIFILM FinePix XP135 does a better job of not blurring images so this was what I had in my hand when the moose crossed our path. I had no tripod or flash or anything and just snapped as many pics as I could before she ran away!Inspiration
When you are this close to a moose you can't help but be in awe of their size, grace and overall presence. This mama moose was so relaxed as she walked across the road and stopped for a nibble of greens that I just had to capture the amazing sight.Editing
I'm pretty amateur when it comes to photo processing so I use Google Photos editing tools and adjusted the light and colours to make her thick coat and the green bushes stand out a bit more clearly. In my camera bag
I pack pretty light as we do lots of hiking and I don't want to have to dig through a bag to get my camera so I usually have my Canon PowerShot SX520 HS hanging around my neck and my more durable, waterproof FUJIFILM FinePix XP135 in my hand or pocket. I try to grab my small flexible tripod if I can but that's about it!Feedback
Whenever we are travelling I always have my camera on my lap, just in case we encounter something that is worth capturing. I've taken enough blurry photos to know which camera and setting works best for use while driving (my hubby doesn't like to slow down so I can get pictures!). Play around, take lots of shots and also don't forget to put the camera down and just take in the experience!
