This photo was taken in my hometown of Gloucester, MA. Gloucester is America's oldest seaport where we just celebrated our 400th birthday. We are rich in maritime history and known for our fishing industry.Time
This photo was taken in mid-morning on a sunny summer day. There was no wind and the water was smooth and perfect. Giving off spectacular reflections of the blue sky, clouds, and the historical area of the inner harbor.Lighting
The mid-morning light was still soft. I find that the best light of the day is early to mid-morning as well as closer to dusk.Equipment
This picture was taken hand-held using a Nikon D7500 and a Sigma 18-300mm lens. I also inserted a circular polarizing filter.Inspiration
Since moving to Gloucester 8 years ago I have developed a passion for maritime photography. I enjoy the history and beauty of schooners and tall ships. I have been fortunate to have sailed on a few of our local schooners. This image features many of my favorite things: The Gloucester Maritime Museum, the schooner Ardelle, and the historic inner harbor. When I went out on the docks to take this shot I felt everything coming together with the perfect lighting, epic reflections and background. This is why this is my favorite photograph.Editing
I really did very little to enhance this photograph. Using Photoshop I did tweak the contrast and clarity as well as the detail slightly. The colors were untouched. In my camera bag
I have a fairly light bag as I now only use 3 lenses. I use a Nikon D500 body. My lenses are: Nikon 150-500mm, Nikon 18-300mm and a Sigma 10-20mm wide angle. I also use at times a tripod or monopod.Feedback
My advise is to shoot when the light is best early day or near dusk. If possible scout out your locations prior to you shoot to look for the best angles. Take advantage of the weather for the best conditions. Lastly-enjoy your photography and get out and shoot as much as possible.
