Location
This photo was taken at Parker River Wildlife Refuge in Newburyport, MA. A favorite place to view wildlife.Time
It was mid afternoon when I took this shot. The salt pannes were at near high tide with no wind. Perfect conditions for reflections.Lighting
The lighting was perfect, with clear blue skies and no wind. The white of the snowy egret was in perfect contrast with the background. I shot this at F/10 at 1/1600s to capture the movement of the egret as he was taking a long hop in its search for fish.Equipment
This shot was hand held with my Nikon D5300 and Sigma 18-300mm lens at ISO 400.Inspiration
I love watching egrets hunt for food. They move with great stealth. When they open their wings over the water it is to reduce glare to help them see more clearly in the water. The conditions were perfect for mirror-like reflections.Editing
I use Photoshop and also Topaz DeNoise. This shot was very much in focus and it was very easy to process. In my camera bag
I carry a very complete bag of equipment and accessories. My most used items are my Nikons D7500 and D5300 cameras. My favorite lenses are the Sigma 18-300mm and 150-600mm. I generally need the extra reach for birding pictures and these 2 lenses give me great versatility. I also have a Manfrotto tripod.Feedback
Always be prepared with the equipment you carry with you. I also find that patience and anticipation when photographing wildlife are the best tools that you carry with you. I have experience in watching different birds and this knowledge can be the difference between capturing a great shot or a blurry one.
