This photo of the BAE Guayas was taken during the Tall Ship Festival off of the coast of Cape Ann, MA. We were aboard a Whale Watch ship out of Gloucester, MA when we came across her in full sail.Time
We came across this beautiful Ecuadorian 3 Masted Schooner at approximately 2pm. It was a sight to behold that I will always treasure.Lighting
It was a perfect June day with calm seas, blue skies and puffy white clouds.Equipment
This shot was taken with my Nikon D5300 and Sigma 18-300mm lens with a circular polarizer filter. I shot this hand held. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
We were on a tour to spot some tall ships off the coast of Cape Ann as they were gathering out of Boston Harbor on the way to Nova Scotia. These gorgeous ships have such great lines and evoke history and adventure to me. The Guayas is 257 feet long with 3 masts and a steel hull. It was built in 1976. It was exciting to see it.Editing
I processed this image in Adobe Photoshop and did little to enhance the colors of the sky and sea.In my camera bag
As I knew that I could not carry my normal camera bag and tripod on board the Whale Watch ship, I just took my Nikon D5300 and Sigma 18-300mm lens as I knew that I could get close ups and medium distance shots with that one lens. I generally carry a 150-600mm Sigma and tripod with me but I had to travel light for this trip.Feedback
Be prepared and watch the weather reports and do your research on the different ships that may be in the area. Look for a spot on the ship you are taking pictures from that has unobstructed views. It is also important to shoot as higher shutter speeds to compensate for the rocking of the boat you are on.
