Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in North Port, Florida a few years ago and a favorite park I visited regularly. I was drawn there by their flowers and butterflies.

Time

I took this shot in mid afternoon on a partly cloudy day. The lighting was not harsh at all and I remember following the numerous Monarch Butterflies around waiting for them to finally land. They generally do not stay on a flower long and can be very challenging to capture a nice shot.

Lighting

Just natural light on a partly cloudy day.

Equipment

This image was shot with a Nikon D5300 and a Nikon 70-200mm lens. This was taken hand held with no flash or tripod

Inspiration

The brightness of the flower and the great colors of the butterfly really stood out for me.

Editing

I did bump up the color saturation just a bit on this shot. It really did not require much in the way of post processing.

In my camera bag

I have a pretty well stocked bag. I use 2 models of Nikon cameras, a few different zoom lenses to me from ultra wide angle 10mm to 600mm. There are generally 4 different lenses that I carry along with a Nikon flash and assorted cleaning tools.

Feedback

Any time I deal with wildlife or insect photography I know to come prepared. It requires a lot of patience and knowledge of lighting and proper fast shutter speed. Practice helps so get out there and keep shooting because your skills will develop.
