wish these chaps would come to my house and do my nails. This stay-at-home business is getting very old!

Hi Sandil, Thank you for the comment and interest. I bought the little figurines in a model toy train shop in Germany. They can be ordered online, just search for model train figurines or mini figurines for photography, there are many to choose from and they are fun to take picture of !

Location
The photo was taken in our relatives home at a family event. I knew that the event would be mostly boring for the teenagers so I planned this shot to have some fun and brought my camera, a mirror and the little painters.Time
It was in the late afternoon, the pictures was taken indoors.Lighting
To get a soft light I used an off camera flash which I aimed at the ceiling to bounce the light down. The camera was set on a tripod.Equipment
I used a canon 5D Mark II with a 100mm lens, the speedlite 580 EX Il external flash with a trigger and a Vanguard SBH-100 tripod.Inspiration
I saw a picture of a little model painter doing one nail and I challenged myself to do a picture of 5 painters, one for each finger.Editing
The post progressing was a challenge and done in photoshop CS6. Because for the technique I took the picture of the female teenagers whole hand without the painters first. Then I took one picture of each finger using a different painter model. So I had 5 pictures of each finger with a different painter. To combine them I cropped each painter and the finger and placed them on top of the first hand picture shot. For this the model had to be very patient ( she was great ! ) and keep her finger in the right position. For the paint on the nails I used the paint brush in photoshop and carefully added the different colors to make it look as if painting in progress. The reason for this is that the model could not hold the hand in place with all 5 painters on it .In my camera bag
This depends what I am planning to shoot. My favorite lens is the macro 100, the 50mm 1.2 and the 24-100 zoom lens for walk abouts. I also bring lens cleaner and tissue. I try not to bring too much because of the weight.Feedback
I think it’s important to visualize the outcome of the picture first before shooting and think it through step by step of how it could be done. But there are always surprises and things don’t often go as planned. Patience is important for a picture like that.
