Location
In my photo studio - which I build on top of our garage.Time
In the afternoon, it was raining outside !Lighting
I used a soft box from one side, very close to the needle.Equipment
I used a canon 5D mark II camera, a 100 mm macro lense and a tripod.Inspiration
My wife was at the hairdressers to have her long hair cut short. Looking at the long hair on the floor I wondered how many of those hairs would fit through an eye of a needle ! So I decided to collect some hair in a bag and took it home to experiment.Editing
Whilst taken the pictures I realised that it's very difficult to get much in focus at a closeup range so I took another 10 pictures focusing on different spots along the hair and the thread of the needle. For this I set the camera on a tripod. Later I focused stacked them in Photoshop CS6.In my camera bag
It depends what my intended project is. For walk about I take my 24 - 105 zoom, for macro my 100 mm and for landscapes my tripod, filters and tripod. For wild life my 200 mm telephoto with extender. To carry too many things makes the bag heavy so I usually plan a outing and bring only what I need for that.Feedback
I am always looking to shoot something eye catching or even entertaining. One has to develop an eye for this and I find that it takes time and lots of patience. I also love looking at other photographers work and find so much inspiration and ideas there. Getting to know your camera helps to take better pictures.
