Behind The Lens

Location
On our dining table using a grey background.
Time
Late evening after having a gin & tonic.
Lighting
I set up a soft box from the right and a reflector to bounce some light back on the left.
Equipment
Canon 5D mark II, a 50mm lens and a tripod.
Inspiration
I like the idea of color popping some images and thought that this beautiful red apple combined with the miniature painters would make a good subject to look like its being painted.
Editing
I used photo shop CS6 to first turn the whole picture into black and white, then used a layer and later painted back the colours where I wanted them .
In my camera bag
I usually think about the shot I want to take and only try to bring what is needed. For a walk about in town I would just bring my zoom lens and leave the tripod at home but for landscapes I would bring it with the fixed wide angle lens and some filters.
Feedback
Last time I was in Germany I went to the model train shop and bought some miniature figures such as the painters. These are good for practicing your macro shots and are also good fun to play around with. The more experience I gain over the years the less I think it matters what brand of camera or equipment you use. It's all about the love of creating images, the learning progress and the fun.
