Location
The pelicans were swimming at the back of a large pond at the Phoenix Zoo in Arizona.Time
It was mid-morning.Lighting
The background was in shadow which made the white pelicans along with their reflections stand out in sharp contrast.Equipment
All of my photography captures in recent years have been taken with a Nikon D500 and a Nikkor 18 to 300 mm lens.Inspiration
Having two birds traveling as a pair I found interesting made all the more interesting by the contrast between they and their background..Editing
I do varying amounts of post processing to all of the photos that are worth keeping. In this photo for example I increased the contrast between the pelicans and the water as well as increased the sharpness around their heads. In my camera bag
My basic equipment consists of one camera, one lens, several spare batteries, and a couple of additional SD cards which I rarely find that I need, all of which are packed into a camera sling bag. All of the padding within the camera bag I have replaced with a gardener's knee pad that wraps around the camera and lens. Most of my photography is in the field and the knee pad comes in handy to sit, kneel or lie on when conditions warrant. I used to pack a carbon tripod and a external flash but ended up using them so rarely that I usually leave them at home.Feedback
I definitely recommend becoming skilled at post processing. It can make all the difference in turning a good photo into a really good picture. I use Lightroom and Photoshop.
