The two-way bond between people and their canid friends can sometimes be extraordinarily powerful. In this case it is between a man and his wolf-dog hybrid, which makes it all the more remarkable. Wolf-dog hybrids especially those that are a high percentage wolf are difficult highly emotional animals that retain a lot of their natural wild traits including being extremely bonded to other members within their own pack. All of the ancestry of domestic dogs comes from their wolf ancestry.

Location
The photo was taken in a park in Anchorage, Alaska.Time
It was mid-afternoon.Lighting
Lighting is of utmost importance when it comes to photography. What the situation lacked I added with Lightroom software.Equipment
At the time I think I was using a Nikon D300 along with a Nikkor 18 to 200 mm lens.Inspiration
It was a touching moment when I saw the man whom I know expressing affection for Gringo, his pet wolf-dog hybrid. He appears to have felt the same way as suggested by his passivity in being held closely along with his expression.Editing
I converted the photo to black and white which seemed to me to more strongly convey the emotional moment I had witnessed. Taking advantage of tight cropping and slight rotation of the photo using Lightroom I increased the direction and lighting across the frame diagonally as well as enhanced Gringo's eyes and expression. In my camera bag
Years ago I decided to switch to using a single ultra zoom lens coupled with a semiprofessional camera to cover ninety-nine percent of my photography. My camera is a Nikon D500 and my lens is a Nikon 18 to 300 mm. This combination allows me to take photos under a wide range of field conditions at a moments notice plus never have to worry about getting dust on the photo processor or bother changing lenses. Surprisingly even macro is possible. While no ultra zoom can match the degree of sharpness or light gathering abilities that prime lenses can offer, the currrent ultra zoom lenses are so good that it has enabled me to win hundreds of challenges plus a Sony camera in one of the ViewBug contests.Feedback
When taking pictures ask yourself did I catch the critical moment, and is the final result one which you yourself would judge to be good enough to hang on a wall. Consider the rectangular shape of the photo as the frame with all kinds of rules that determine how best to position the placement of the photo within. Crop out everything that is irrelevant.
