Using special eye tracking equipment Jessica Yorzinski, an evolutionary biologist at Purdue University, discovered that peahens during courtship focus their viewing almost exclusively on the lower portion of the peacock’s feather display, possibly assessing its symmetry and size as an indirect measure of age and health. Based on this criteria, if I were a peahen I think I would consider this peacock to be a good mate.
