Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the blackland prairie raptor center

Time

This was taken mid-morning on a very overcast day

Lighting

This was taken on an overcast day, but these guys are pretty lazy so he stood still for me....

Equipment

This was taken hand-held with a Canon 70D and Tamron 18-400mm lens

Inspiration

The preserve holds a raptor day once a month, the park isn't used much other than that so these guys make themselves at home

Editing

This was processed for light and color using Lightroom

In my camera bag

I normally carry a Canon 70D with a Tamron 16/300mm mounted and a 5D Mk III with any number of lenses ranging from a 8mm diagonal fisheye to a Sigma 200-500mm telephoto, depending on what I'll be shooting. I'm usually looking for cool things at random while traveling, so I don't get to plan a lot of shots beforehand - I've found I spend the most time with various prime lenses and the 17-300mm Tamron though, the Tamron's range lets you capture almost anything on the fly and reduces the need for lens changes out in the open

Feedback

This wasn't a planned shot, I was there for the raptors - don't get so wrapped up in what you're doing that you forget to just stop and look around at what else might be fun to shoot...!
