Location
Vinicuna or Rainbow Mountain, Cusco, Peru Formed by weathering, environmental conditions and sedimentary deposits over time, the mountain's unique minerology created a marbling effect, with layered hues of gold, lavender, red and turquoise towering into the sky. The Rainbow Mountain or Vinicunca is a mountain near Cusco in Peru. Located in the Peruvian Andes in Cusco just 3 hours away from the historical center, Rainbow Mountain is becoming the main attraction to see after or before Machu Picchu. As you could guess, the mountain is famed for its natural, multi-colored beauty at a staggering 5,200m above sea level. This rainbow-like appearance is created by the sediment of minerals throughout the area giving the mountain the turquoise, lavendar, gold and other colors. It was only recently discovered due to the snow melting revealing the hidden gem that’s still considered holy by many until this day. Since its discovery, Rainbow Mountain as slowly started gaining popularity and has even been listed in National Geographic’s “Top 100 Places To Visit Before You Die”.Time
We arrived at about 7am - we got up at 4am to get the minibus to the bottom of the mountain and then we took mules or hiked up to 5,200 feet which is where I got these incredible views for my photos.Lighting
All natural lighting and early in the day on a clear day so we had perfect conditions.Equipment
I used only a Canon Rebel 16Ti, hand held, with an 18-135 lens.Inspiration
The incredible beauty of nature of this unique landscape. I went to Peru to experience Machu Picchu and decided to see this wonder of the natural of the world while I was there. There are only two other known such places on the planet - one in China and the other in the North of Argentina.Editing
I do very little post processing and in LightRoom, mostly cropping and other simple editing like sharpening and a little saturation if necessary. In my camera bag
I travel light these days - Camera body, 2 lenses, extra battery, extra SD card, cleaning cloth. I also just bought a 13ProMax i-phone to use for immediate upload of images to Instagram and Facebook.Feedback
Decide what you REALLY want to see, like a truly unique place or event. Plan ahead, and of course, if possible, be prepared to get up at a very early hour to get better natural lighting and less tourists for shooting naturally beautiful landscapes.
