An interesting event occurred shortly after I shot this photo. A third swan swam up toward the two in the photograph. In reaction they separated. One went to one side of the reservoir and the other to the other side. The swam swimming in came toward the one close to me. As he closed in the swan took off and flew strait up the reservoir in the direction from which the 3rd swan had came. Then the 3rd swan swam over toward the remaining swan at the other side. As swan 3 closed in that swan too took off in the same direction, only this time the 3rd swan too took off as if in chase. I suppose he was the alpha swan of the pack and he was corralling the other two back to the heard before the sun had completely set? But what took me by surprise of the event was the sound. The last two swans as they flew by up the reservoir barely lifted above the water surface, so with each flap of their massive wings at the bottom of the wingstroke their wings beat against the water surface - Bang Bang Bang! It was very quiet there, which intensified the sound and energy of the wing slapping, like war drums beating.
