This is a great capture Nina, I have never seen sandhill cranes but often read about their trumpet calls, I also read recently about the red winged black birds they often attack cranes by pecking them on their backs , these blackbirds are quite aggressive they also attack geese and other bigger birds.it may be something to do with the shared habitat or the fact that the big birds disturb their nests.
