There is a hot spring in Japan where the monkeys like to bath. And, they've gotten used to having people around too. It was in this hot spring where I captured these two snow monkeys having a soak and grooming each other while surrounded by the snowy Winter. This was shot at 14mm on a full frame camera. The monkey was about 30cm-40cm away from me!

Location
I took this photo during one of my many trips to Japan. This was taken in the month of December on a trip in 2012. Japan is amazing!Time
It's a funny thing about wildlife in Japan. People and wildlife aren't separate like they are in North America. They live together. In Japan the wildlife have evolved alongside and with the people. Human culture is part of the Natural environment in Japan. I took this photo at one of the many hot springs on Honshu, the main island in Japan, about 150 kms NW of Tokyo. I was in the afternoon one day in the middle of December.Lighting
I shot these guys using TTL flash set to flash exposure compensation of -0.7. This setting added a natural amount of fill light.Equipment
I shoot Canon now, but back then I was using Nikon. I used a Nikon D800e, 14mm-24mm f/2.8 lens and an SB-800 on camera flash.Inspiration
The snow monkeys in Japan are Famous. And, I was scouting out this location to include it in an upcoming Japan travel photography tour. I host this tour somewhat regularly.Editing
I used Adobe LR and PS to post process this photo. I didn't do anything special to process it. I maintained good control over the contrast and boasted the colours via vibrance/saturation just a bit.In my camera bag
This is a long list. Google my name and "camera bag" and you'll find a detailed blog post on my website outlining everything that I carry. It's a lot!Feedback
