Behind The Lens

Location
This Photo was captured in downtown Richmond, Virginia. Specifically, in an old abandoned hydroelectric plant that has been revitalized to house many large scale paintings by local artists.
Time
4pm, Roughly an hour or so before sundown.
Lighting
No supplemental lighting was used. It was a cloudy day which created the perfect “gloomy” ambiance i was looking for.
Equipment
Using my Nikon d500 and a 16-80mm lens, and the widest focal length. There was no need for extra equipment, sometimes the best photos require the least amount of planning as this was a point and shoot style photo.
Inspiration
Having rained the night before i was on a mission to discover the best puddle reflections around the city. Growing up in the area i had an idea of the hotspots i needed to visit that day.
Editing
Only a slight tint adjustment to encompass that teal blue!
In my camera bag
My Nikon d500 and 16-80mm lens go everywhere with me. It’s the perfect all around setup, sometimes i’ll bring a tripod along as well.
Feedback
It’s important to learn what different weather patterns mean for lightning. This Capture was on a cloudy day so the light cloud coverage acted as a giant soft box. This eliminates the possibility of harsh shadows and/or glare from the sun which wasn’t ideal for me in this particular situation. Days without clouds obviously aren’t total busts, they just require a different thought process and usually more equipment.
