White Sands National Monument, near Alamogordo, New Mexico, USA.Time
Midday. About 12:58pm to be exact.Lighting
I try to use as much natural light at possible for my photography. There was a beautiful sheen of clouds that covered the sun just enough to not be too overpowering and create a beautiful silhouette.Equipment
I used my Canon 70d with an 18mm-135mm lens.Inspiration
I really love White Sands. It's an amazing place to visit and play. My children love it, too, and it was our exchange student's first time visiting. It's tradition to jump off the dunes. The sun with the clouds over it was perfect and inspired me to take some silhouette shots of the kids playing so freely. There are so many screens and video games these days, that I try and capture true, natural play whenever I get an opportunity, and this was one of those days.Editing
Yes. I used Photoshop and Nik's Silver Efex plugin to convert to black & white, and enhance the silhouette. In my camera bag
I usually just pack my Canon 70d DSLR and my iPhone 6s Plus when I am out with my children. As little as possible with them is best - so they don't become bored when I'm really into a capture and I avoid damage that may occur from rambunctious children!Feedback
Patience, creativity, different angles and subjects, and take lots of shots.
