I took this photo at our local Aquarium in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.Time
Mid-afternoon.Lighting
The only light source was above the tank in the center. The tank is a wall tank and at certain angles, reflected light sources from other exhibits and from people walking by.Equipment
For this particular shot, I used my iPhone 6s Plus.Inspiration
I have never seen a Nautilus before and found this particular guy fascinating. He was just sitting there, almost suspended in time and completely motionless. I was entranced by his presence, both physically there, but also seemingly not there. He's a neat-looking creature.Editing
Yes. I got rid of any reflections present and slightly brightened the Nautilus. I added a little more clarity as well.In my camera bag
When I am out and about with my children or crewing a hot air balloon event, I usually only have my iPhone. It's quick and easy for me to get a good shot and I don't have to fuss with extra equipment or accessories. I have found that I really enjoy taking photos with my phone. Especially macro shots. Otherwise, if I planned to do lots of photography, I carry my Canon 70d, a 40mm and 18-135mm lenses, a myriad of filters, and my Zomei tripod.Feedback
Take pictures of anything and everything. Use your phone. It's not always what type of equipment one has that determines the quality of their photography. I have several of my best photos that were taken with my iPhone. If you see something that makes you think twice, or think, "that would make a great shot,' then take that picture! You never know, that picture could be the next contest winner!
