Yosemite Valley is one of my most favorite places on the planet. This image was gathered in the fall while walking along the Merced River in Yosemite Valley National Park.Time
Yosemite Valley is a wonderful place to gather images. We were were staying in Yosemite Village in the late fall for several days riding bikes and exploring the park. I always have my camera with me when exploring in Yosemite. While walking along the Merced River I came across this lovely scene and gathered this image. The timing was perfect with the reflections of Half Dome and Mt Watkins in the Merced River. The image was gathered hand held on January Fourth 2010 at 5:50 pmLighting
The natural lighting when I gathered this image was absolutely perfect! Trust your Instinct. Experiment. For me, dawn and dusk seem to offer the best lighting conditions.Equipment
I gathered this image hand held with my Olympus SP570 UZ camera. Focal length 4.60mm. Exposure 1/30 sec, F/2.8, ISO 100.Inspiration
Yosemite Valley is a very beautiful place! My camera is always with me. The moment I saw the light and the reflections in the Merced River there was no question that I would gather this image.Editing
After selecting the chosen images, I post process with latest version of Photoshop CC. Some require more processing that others. In my camera bag
My camera bag sometimes seems to be way to heavy and it has just one strap. One day I will purchase a better system. The camera bag always contains my Olympus E-5 with battery pack attached below the camera. The lens most often on the camera body is my Olympus Digital Zuiko 12-60 mm 1:28-4. In reserve are my Zuiko Digital 50-200mm 1:2.8-3.5 and my Olympus Digital 50mm 1:2 Macro. A 500mm lens will join the other lenses very soon. In addition to my lenses I always have extra batteries, lens cleaning supplies and rain protection. Also if needed is a manual for my E-5 and a remote shutter control. Shop towels help separate the lenses as my bag has only two areas for gear. Also I have an extra eye piece as I lost one once on location and its always nice to have a small notebook on hand for writing down any relevant information.Feedback
This is an interesting question. My thoughts are in no particular order. Always have your camera with you. Keep your camera and lenses in good condition and readily available. If you happen to see something that interests you take the time to stop and gather the image. In fact gather several images as the light is always changing. Also perhaps change the settings on your camera. Maybe try for different perceptive for gathering the image you want. Perhaps try a different lens. If you happen to be in one place for several days become aware of the light conditions and weather. Most of all Trust your Instinct and have Fun!!!
