On this particular photoshoot, this was my first test shot in low lighting and I loved the outcome of this photo more than any of the other more prepared shots I took this evening. The model wasn't posing or even ready for this quick test shot I took of her which made her look incredibly relaxed and a bit dazed in this image of her, creating a stunning facial expression and portrait. I love the art and unpredictability of photography especially when you capture such a raw and unexpected beautiful moment in a candid

I took this Inside my house as a test shot and it ended up being my favorite photo out of all themTime
I took this at nighttime with very little light to get that beautiful grainy film lookLighting
I used one main light and added a small light to add some dimension to itEquipment
I used my Canon 40D camera with my canon 50mm lensInspiration
I was just having fun taking this image and what amazed me the most about this photo was that is was my first test photo I took of her that night so she wasn’t trying to model or do anything with her facial expression at all. In fact, I caught her off guard taking this first test shot so quickly that I was able to catch this amazing look on her face completely uncensored and real in that moment. That ended up being my ultimate inspiration getting this beautiful capture.Editing

Never underestimate the power of prime lenses! I love bokeh so much and so I prefer to always use my prime 50mm or 85mm lenses to achieve that beautiful background bokeh you achieve when you use prime lenses. And always remember that some of your test shots can be the best capture of all so never disregard them. The concept of test shots is mainly for light among other things of course but most models aren’t thinking about posing for those shots so you never know what the outcome will be. You might surprise yourself to find that those are the shots you love best because your model isn’t trying to force different facial expressions and you could be lucky to capture those stunning uncensored expressions that the model gives without trying. I love the look of authentic expressions and even though this wasn’t meant to be a candid, it turned out so beautifully. Don’t be afraid to experiment with less light to get those beautiful grainy old film looks that are simply classic. Bokehlicious!
