This is a rare, uncommon and declining bird that is found only in southern most Texas in tall trees. It is distinguished from the Hooded oriole by its larger size, thicker mostly black bill, the black lores and in the adult the orange to yellow shoulder patch and whitish lower wing bars as seen in this capture taken in the Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park near Mission, Texas.
