Taken in Rabaul, East New Britain, Papua New Guinea....this little kid lives in an environment that resembles the moon in some ways, it`s all volcanic ash from the still active volcano that looks over the town.

Taken mid morning, full sunlightLighting
The lighting was not an issue, my subject wasn`t staged or set up, just a random portrait taken in the moment.Equipment
Canon 5D MarkIII, Canon EF 28-300mm lens, hand heldInspiration
Taken while visiting one of the volcano`s near Rabaul. This boy was with his parents who were land owners, the once fertile tropical environment was destroyed by a volcano eruption some 24 years earlier and is now a wasteland of volcano dust. The land owners still live there and survive by selling trinkets to tourist. I`m always on the lookout for a portrait and this little boy just happened to pop up.... a lucky grab.Editing
Very little post processing required with this image, slight lighten of the hair and capture lights in the eyes.In my camera bag
Canon 5DSr is my favourite body unless I`m doing sports. As my main passion these days is portraiture I always take my two Canon f/1.2 primes 50mm and 85mm. Always 3 batteries and back up memory card.Feedback
Travel !! A bit difficult with Covid these days, but you can`t beat immersing yourself in a new culture to feel inspired to shoot.
