I waited two years to capture this image, these falls ( Din Din Barron Falls, Kuranda, Nth Queensland Australia ) only run like this after considerable rainfall and when I took this we had 600 mm of rain in just over 3 days, so water..tick.. then I needed some moonlight to light it up ..tick.. and no rain..tick.
I would have preferred a little less moon and cloud but beggars cant be choosers and I`ll keep waiting for a better opportunity, I could have used some photoshop trickery but prefer to keep it real.
There are millions of photos of this but I had never seen a night shot so I`m very happy to have done something different to the norm.

This location is photographed literally millions of times a year as its a well known tourist attraction. But I have never seen a photograph taken at night time so I wanted to be the first that I'm aware of. I waited patiently for 2 years for the conditions to right, the falls only flow like this on a few occasions each year during the monsoon season or wet season as we call it here. So falls flowing tick, not raining tick, good moonlight at required height to light up the area tick, no wind tick. I finally had the right conditions and managed to capture what I had in mind.Equipment
Canon 5DS R with 8-15 mm fish eye lens at 15mm focal length. f/7.1, 80 second exposure, ISO 500, on a very sturdy tripod, mirror lock up with 2 second delay. No flash.Inspiration
As I mentioned earlier, I have never seen a night photo taken at this iconic location, so I wanted to be the first that I know of.Editing
Edited in photoshop, no manipulations just a few adjustments in levels and curves to help make the colours pop as much as possible. In my camera bag
I normaly have too much but you always know you'll need whatever you dont take right !! My normal kit is 2 Canon bodies, 5DS R and 5D MIII, nifty 50 f/1.2, 16-35 mm, 28-300 mm and 100-400 mm, plus a 600 EX-RT Speedlight, ND filters and other various filters, cleaning gear and spare batteries.Feedback
Pre plan as much as possible, I knew in advance the moon rising time and what time it would be high enough to light up the gorge. Do a visit in daylight hours to find the best angle and take note of the focus distance so your not struggling in the night trying to find focus. As with all my long exposures I set mirror lock up in menu settings with 2 second delay for camera movement from pressing the shutter button, if I'm using a lens with a stabilizer I make sure to turn the stabilizer off. And lastly in menu settings I set for long exposure noise reduction.
