Location
I took this photo in Sequoia National Park. It is a very magical place with all those special trees.Time
Photo taken around mid day to early afternoon. The light is filtered through the canopy of the forest of large trees.Lighting
Even though it was during the harsh mid day sun, the canopy filter the light to my benefit.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D Mark III with a Canon 15mm diagonal fisheye. Canon stopped making that particular lens. I found it used on ebay. It was a cream puff deal and has become one of my favorite lens.Inspiration
The magic of the large tree forest inspired me to somehow try to capture it's personality.Editing
For post-processing I use Light Room to adjust exposure. I really do like the rendition of color the 5DMIII captures. In my camera bag
Canon 5D Mark III, Sony A7R Mark II (with Metabones Adapter for Canon Lenses), 15mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 180mm, 10-20mm, 28-70mm, 28-250mm, Fiesol CF tripod, Acratech ball head, Miops trigger.Feedback
Finding the best time to go to Sequoia can be tricky, too early and you will encounter spring's unpredictable weather, which can be to one's benefit. Wait too long then your dealing with the crowds. I was fortunate to go in May before the season kicked in. Not as many guest. To capture trees as large as the Sequoias you will really need a wide angle lens. I was really excited with the results that the 15mm diagonal fish eye produced. Next trip I would like to spend much more time capturing all the unique opportunities available there.
